Food Technology

Students study Food Technology as a module within the Design Technology programme at Key stage 3.  Students will have between sixteen and seventeen weeks of food work across year 7 and 8.  Developing practical food handling skills along side learning about food from the angles of safe food handling; basic cooking skills; informed food choice and wise food shopping.  The emphasis for year 8 is basic skills.  In year 9 Students are then given the option of selecting two areas of Design and Technology to study further. Students who select to take on Food Technology further complete a longer half year course. Where both their theory and practical skills will be tested.

Students who want to extend their knowledge, understanding and practical skills are welcome to take part in our after school clubs.

The course is tailored to encourage flair and creativity. It is directed towards encouraging each student to hopefully take a place on one of the schools Design and Technology courses.
